BalancedWork's Next Phase

Over the past few weeks, Alex and I made the difficult decision to wind down active operations at BalancedWork and begin exploring new opportunities. While the outcome is bittersweet, we’re proud of what we built — and grateful to everyone who was part of the journey.

We wanted to share a brief update below on what we’ve learned, what we’re exploring, and what’s next. If you’re interested in where BalancedWork might go from here, feel free to reply.

Thanks so much for your support, and please stay in touch.

What happened?

After we stepped back to reflect, the decision wasn’t all that hard. We consistently heard from customers and partners that the problem we set out to solve is real — and that our insights were valuable. But the landscape is crowded. There are too many platforms, too many stakeholders, and too many disconnected problems for a standalone solution like ours to take hold.

In most organizations, hybrid work didn’t rise to the top of the priority list for any one team. As we looked at the data, and at the broader economic climate, it became clear that BalancedWork’s best path forward was not as an independent company.

We're proud of what we accomplished. We spoke with over 1,000 people. We built original technology. And we were lucky to collaborate with terrific partners and customers — especially Global Medical Real Estate Trust, Fraym, Bailey Brand Consulting, and Industrious. We also wouldn’t have made it anywhere without the support of our mentors, friends, and family.

Whatever the result, it’s a rare privilege to work alongside people you care about on problems you believe in.

What’s next?

We’ve paused new development and customer engagements, but we are in conversations with a few organizations about possible next chapters for our tech and IP. We’ll share more if there’s news to report.

BalancedWork was born from a simple insight: that poorly designed remote and hybrid work was eroding connection for people, teams, and communities. People complained about being in the office for the wrong reasons, and also about never seeing their colleagues. We still believe organizations need better ways to decide what should happen in person, because those decisions shape the quality of work and the quality of life.

That mission — to improve the systems that support thriving communities — continues to guide us. The future of work will keep unfolding. But as for us: I’ll be returning to my first passion, passenger transportation. Alex will be heading back to healthcare.

Stay tuned — and thank you, truly, for being part of the journey.
